The Honiton Wine Bar, one of East Devon’s most unique eateries
boasts a warm & friendly welcome from the proprietors, Graham
& Clare Quinlan & their staff.
Situated in the centre of the historic East Devon market town of
Honiton, which is famous for its pottery & lace making. The Honiton
Wine Bar, a Free House, occupies one of the earliest dwelling
houses, built just after the fire of 1765. Both its exterior and interior
are quirky and individual with wooden beams, original exposed brick
walls and real slate flooring.
The unique & traditional atmosphere of The Wine Bar helps to offer
a real treat for the visitor to savour.
The Wine Bar menu, the style of which has changed little over the
years, is something of an institution. Thankfully this has less to do
with tradition and more to do with how reliably good the food is.
King prawns pan fried in chilli, lime & ginger served with mixed
leaves, goats cheese & caramalised red onion tart, daily baked
French bread, belly pork slow roasted with crackling served with rich
creamy cider sauce and sea bass fillets with fresh ginger & spring
onions are among the regulars on the menu, with specials that can
change daily.
With the option of lighter fare at lunchtime, such as an interesting
selection of baguettes and with coffee, cakes & pastries always
available the Wine Bar does well at satisfying an assortment of
customer requirements simultaneously. In fact, to further satisfy
those requirements a two course or three course fixed price lunch
menu has been introduced.
At The Honiton Wine Bar we are commited to supporting our region
and the agriculture within sourcing Devon & Cornwall Prime Beef
from selected assured farms using traditional breeds of cattle. We
ask our butcher to mature this beef for our restaurant for 7 days on
the bone and 21 days hung to enhance the tenderness, succulence
and flavour. We are extremely confident in the quality of our meat
and are able to say that we would not sell anything that we would
not eat ourselves.
We are currently using free range chicken sourced within the Exmoor
national park. Our free range eggs are supplied by Fowlers of Putts
Corner, Sidbury.
With well worn wood tables and the rustic surroundings of old church
pews, the wine bar offers cosy & informal dining on the busiest
evenings, which are common.
